Why Transcription?

I have had several office administrators ask me why they should go with a transcription company versus in-house scribes or providers inputting data.
My answer will always be a resounding why use scribes or providers inputting info while interacting with patients? Why not go “old school” but in a new 21st century manner? I have found that all doctors hate to input data and having a scribe in the room is not the best choice either, considering patient comfort along with paying them an hourly rate, benefits, finding space for them, computer equipment, et cetera. So in my opinion outsourcing is actually the most cost effective when the numbers are crunched against all the benefits versus a set line rate with a transcription company. Also the providers do not have to learn a “new way” of doing the same thing they have done in the past. They can dictate as they previously did in a digital recorder or iPhone and upload the files as they have for many years.
The motto I live by is why fix something that is not broken.
